« Give Music a Chance »
Al
Kamandjâti Association is not only interested in teaching music to the
Palestinian children, but also to teach to some of them how to repair,
maintain and tune the instruments. Indeed, it is a very underdeveloped
expertise in Palestine, whereas all musicians need it to be able to
perform correctly on their own instruments, and that is why Al Kamandjâti
is focusing on that issue too.
The Belgium association, Music Fund,
aims to offer a material support to the young musicians and music schools
in the regions in conflict in the world. Music Fund collects music instruments,
repairs them and then distributes them to those regions.
In January
2006, the first collected instruments reached the Middle East and Lukas
Pairon, the President of the association, arrived with 89 donated instruments
to Al Kamandjâti Music Center.
Then, Music Fund came back to Palestine
in May 2006 for an instruments repairing session attended by some young
Palestinian music students and teachers. This session not only enabled
us to repair several donated instruments to the association, but also
to train Palestinians to this expertise. In September 06, Al Kamandjâti,
in collaboration with Music Fund and with the support of the Roberto
Cimetta Fund, sent Iyad, a violin and piano Al Kamandjâti student
to Belgium during 3 months to start learning how to repair and tune
pianos.
